Smite: Nuke Damage Numbers

Q. How much damage does Smite do?
A. Enough to nuke your face off.

/end late crappy April Fools' attempt, I don't have the gene sorry.
However, to properly answer the above question, I did prepare a data table for easy understanding. Here's the math:

Sample Calculations

Tooltip Dmg = (Tooltip Maximum Dmg + Tooltip Minimum Dmg)/2
Smite Tooltip Dmg = (707 + 793)/2 = 750

Base Dmg = Tooltip Dmg + (Spell Power x Spell Power Coefficient)
@ 500 Spell Power
Smite Base Dmg = 750 + (500 x 0.7143) = 1107.15

Total Dmg = Base Dmg x % Modifier A x % Modifier B x ... % Modifier Z
@ 500 Spell Power w/ Talents: Searing Light (10%), Focused Power (4%)
Smite Total Dmg = 1107.15 x 1.10 x 1.04 = 1266.58

% Modifiers

Searing Light: 10%, 1.10
Focused Power: 4%, 1.04
Twin Discipline (Surge of Light Only): 5%, 1.05
Glyph of Smite: 20%, 1.20
Critical: 150%, 1.50

Note: Critical Sum is the sum of SoL Smite and Critical Smite. However, because SoL Smite uses up an additional Global Cooldown, it should not be compared with other spell criticals.

Although Smite damage numbers are not in the "omfg nukage ownz" category, the introduction of the new Glyph of Smite is a much welcomed improvement of what we had before. I'm glad we are finally reaching the 6k critical mark, now is the moment to wish for more Sundial proc :)

  1. You have certainly done your research! I'll definitely respect Holy DPS priests more from now on, though I've never run into one myself. I hope I do now, because I want to see this in action!

  2. Thank you for your comment Aenorn. Holy DPS priests are very rare among the dps classes. You can probably catch one running around in non-80 instances because the spec allows good performance in both healing and dpsing for leveling.

However, upon reaching 80, we have a lot of obstacles to overcome (hit cap, careful itemization) as well as having to constantly defend ourselves against cookie-cutter folks who think our spec is a joke. We are often compared with melee hunters, and were insulted as such. Although our dps is not nearly as bad. (In fact, we are not bad at all).

A tip of a hat to you for keeping an open mind :)

  3. Actually, I played my Hunter quite a lot Pre-BC and for a good while I was known as the idiot on my server for being a melee Hunter (I eventually went back to BM) but ask any of the people that made fun of me and lost their duels against me if I didn't know how to play :D Games are for fun and if you aren't doing what makes you happy then why play at all right?

  4. Very true. So the stories of melee hunters aren't mythical. Wow the duals sounds both fascinating and embarrassing. In a good way though.

  7. Oh yes about this sweet gem, I completely forgot about it after I did all my screenshots and stuff so I didn't get a chance to add it in. But then I figure I should probably put item enhanced damage numbers in another post. So it was not included. Thanks for the reminder though.

Btw, I read your post on BlogAzeroth and was wondering if you might be interested in a link exchange?

  14. Dude do some of these idiots on the WoW forums know how good you are at this? I've been researching the fabled DPS Priest ever since i got interested in creating one, and now ive found you. Dude you rock man! There are so many people out there cutting to pieces idea of a DPS Priest taking the place of pure DPS Classes. But it's like if Blizzard didn't want it to be, their would no way to do it. Thanks man, im gonna continue to follow your spec, and knowledge till 80.
