Blue Cata Post: Smite got a cookie!

04/08/2010 12:30:48 AM PDT
The idea behind the Holy "cast three in a row" talent (it's called "Chakra") is that we've always positioned Holy as a versatile healer. This talent lets you shift into different modes. If you need to be a tank healer, cast three single target heals and your single-target healing is now better. Cast three area heals, and you can be a temporarily specialized group healer. We're going to try to play this mechanic up with a cool UI to try to get that "I'm almost in the zone" feel. We'll let it apply to as many types of spells as we can, perhaps even Smite for those times when nobody's taking damage

Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, but I'm just thankful that at least they are thinking about it. It's probably done to ease up leveling as well as those i'm-bored-while-healing moments, but regardless, it's a cookie.

  1. This could be pretty awesome. Makes farming/ leveling a lot better as Holy. And it could vastly improve a Holy priest's PvP capabilities.

  2. Alpha talents.
Alpha, meaning they are very likely to change, a lot.
But still, keep your eye on them.,,11927

The effect you speak of in this post is called "Chakra" and is down in friggin Tier8. Casting smite 3X in a row (As you do after a HF) means you will deal 12% more damage. Not bad!

However, try to make a holy DPS build. The entire first tier is good for you, but after that, you're kinda stuck for a few tiers that are entirely and without any spell that benefits you.

Disc on the other hand seems to have lost most of it's +crit and +dmg talents.

Again, this is taken from an alpha build of the game, extremely subject to change.

    Good luck with you blog!

  3. Perhaps if enough people join the Facebook group "Smite Priests for Cataclysm" we'll see this Chakra boost at launch!

  4. @Ynna
That seems to be the goal. They are shifting the holy dps talents in both disc and holy tree to the earlier tiers to ease the leveling experience. Several modifications are also made in the holy tree to make it more viable in pvp. If the changes go through, holy might be able to match disc in the offensive healer role.

The chakra talent is deep but we can still get both power infusion and chakra with no problem. That was my main concern. The trees are also changed such that the healing abilities of a smite priest will be far superior than it is now, as we have lots of points to "waste" on fillers in between searing light and chakra.
